Hilda Patricia Curran, Treasurer
I want to be your Voice of Reason. I have served the community and state in various positions since moving to Lansing in 1991. First, as an administrator in the Department of Corrections, then as the Executive Director of the MI Legislative Black Caucus, and lastly, I served as the Chief of Staff to the Chairman of the Michigan House of Appropriations Committee. I was also chairperson of the Ingham County Democratic Party for six years, and currently, I am Vice-Chair for Ingham County MI Democratic Party 8th Congressional District.
My decision to run was based on the critical issues facing our community. With state legislatures around the country threatening the viability of public education, union contracts, salaries, pensions, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and voting rights, the entire foundation of the middle class is in peril.
I know that I can make a difference. All of my administrative positions have required working with the legislative and executive branches to attain the goals of the various departments. I have had the responsibility of initiating ideas for legislation and helping to create the legislation and strategies for passage by working with legislators negotiating solutions. In Michigan and Louisiana I am well-respected as a knowledgeable advocate in the legislative process.
Help me to help you, our community and our state to once again become a model for the nation. I need your support.

LANSING FAITH LEADERS ENDORSE RIVERS FOR STATE HOUSE
(Lansing) – Many Lansing pastors have endorsed Griffin Rivers for the Michigan House of Representatives District 68 seat and more are forthcoming. He is running to fill the open seat in the August, 7, 2012 Democratic primary election. Current Representative Joan Bauer is term-limited.
"We are pleased to endorse Mr. Griffin Rivers for State Representative because of his longstanding record of service and commitment to the citizens of the 68th District and his experience in the Michigan Legislature," said Bishop Samuel Duncan, Pastor of the Lansing Church of God in Christ. "We believe that Griffin is the best candidate to represent Lansing on the critical issues of jobs, education, and public safety. He will help create jobs and opportunities for people in the Lansing community. He has worked in the legislature on both sides of the aisle. This experience allows Griffin to focus on priorities for Lansing instead of political bickering. He is known as a voice of reason and an effective, results-oriented leader."
Former State Representative, Pastor Robert Dean of New Life Church of God in Christ from Grand Rapids, said “Griffin was a great asset to the Michigan House as the Chief of Staff of Appropriations. He worked well with Dems and the GOP, the House and the Senate as well as the Governor’s office and lobbyists. He was so good at negotiating that he earned the nickname of ‘Mr. Wizard.’ He could put deals together when no one else could.”
Former District 68 State Representative, Pastor Mike Murphy of Peoples Congregational Church in Washington, DC, also commented about the experience that Griffin has working in the House and the many organizations in the City that he has helped and promoted. Rev. Murphy stated that, “Griff has really been a great friend to the city.”
"I am humbled and honored to receive this important support from these faith leaders and will work tirelessly for the citizens of the 68th District," said Rivers. "My grassroots campaign will take me to every neighborhood in the 68th District to meet with the good people of the Lansing community."
